Kendrick is an example of what is possible when an individual focuses their strengths and couple their purpose with passion. His experience includes serving in a diverse range of roles – from the world of art to serving as a radar technician and substance abuse counselor in the United States Navy. Kendrick’s wide ranging skills and experience enable him to be an excellent counselor, consultant, coach, trainer and facilitator.
After his nine years of service in the United States Navy, Kendrick attended San Diego State University where he received his BA in Africana Studies/Psychology. In 2013, he graduated from The University of Southern California with his MSW with a concentration Community Organization and Policy Administration. He currently works with the following organizations: Academy of Professional Excellence, Open Heart Leaders, PEI-Black Infant Health and partners with many more in conjunction with his own entity Creative Engagement where he combines his professional skills and his artistic background.
Kendrick values his work as an artist much as he seeks to use his professional skills to help professionals develop their skills just and help disenfranchised populations to make their voice heard. He is an accomplished spoken word artist, musical director and band leader. For over 12 years, he has been able to set himself apart, through pairing his professional knowledge with his artist skills. He is currently the front man for the award-winning spoken word, hip hop soul band, The Lyrical Groove, which won consecutive San Diego Music Awards. In addition to music, he has published a book of poetry, completed voiceover work for a nationally recognized commercial campaign, and, most recently, he participated in a fellowship with a community arts organization called the Playwrights Project working with underserved populations such as the homeless/runaway youth, drug abusers in recovery and incarcerated personnel, to teach them how to write plays.
Kendrick believes it is important g to curate the life experiences we desire, so while he does a lot, carving out self and an impactful level of prioritizing his mental, emotional, spiritual and physical health is equally important. He enjoys an active lifestyle of basketball, dancing, biking, working out, cooking, basketball, self development and historical sci-fi books and watching a good action and comedy movie as well as concerts and plays.
